JACKSON & ASSOCIATES is a premiere Los Angeles law firm

The Unruh Civil Rights Act is part of the California Civil
Code 51-51.3 and provides that people may not be discriminated
against by any business or service provider because of their
sex, color, ancestry, race, mental or physical disability,
religious beliefs, or nation of origin. Some examples of Unruh
violations include price gouging, refusal of services, personal
questions when filling out home rental documents, segregated
housing, and less than equal quality of service based on the
above listed traits.
There are many businesses in California that unlawfully discriminate
against customers, including:
- Hotels and motels
- Restaurants
- Hospitals
- Salons
- Movie theaters
- Retail shops
When a person rents a house or apartment (both of which are
public accommodations), he or she may not be discriminated
against. It is illegal for a property owner to refuse a person
the chance to rent the property based on sex, color, ancestry,
race, mental or physical disability, religious beliefs, nation
of origin, or disability. There are some exceptions to the
Unruh Act, including mobile home and senior housing issues
which you can discuss with our attorney.
If you feel that you have been subjected to an Unruh Act
violation, you should contact a civil rights attorney at JACKSON
& ASSOCIATES.
